The Pirin Mountains

The Pirin Mountains is a typical alpine looking massif. The mountain is named after Perun - the great god of the Slavonic mythology as the local believed that his throne is located high in the mountains. The northern (marble) part of Pirin attracts most of the visitors as here raises the highest peak - Mt Vihren (2914 m). Like in the Rila Mountains here the visitor may admire jugged peaks, narrow ridges, turquoise lakes...and a lot of stones which makes virtually impossible for riding. Try the foothills instead. The areas around Bansko, Dobrinishte, Gotse Deltchev, Kresna and the sand pyramids near Melnik provide wonderful views of the high part, mild weather and interesting landscape.
